INTERNATIONAL FINE ART PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION HONORS ‘STUDY IN TEAL AND GREEN'

While whale watching off the coast of Bahia Drake in Costa Rica, I became intrigued by the changing reflection of sky, light, colors and patterning on the surrounding sea water.  I was fascinated as  abstracted forms in teal, green and white flowed across the surface, appeared then vanished, but not before I captured this image.

As “Study in Teal and Green” transforms the surface of the sea water into a painterly abstraction,  it challenges our perception of reality when the visual clues can not distinguish between the reflected colors, shapes and light with the water itself.

I often take advantage of the reflective qualities of water to achieve a through-the-lens abstraction such as this one and intentionally seek to capture the unexpected colors, shapes  and patterning that nature offers.

A truly natural abstract, “Study in Teal and Green” was just honored as a Nominee Winner in Fine Art in the prestigious 18th Annual International Color Awards, and is part of my Recent Abstracts portfolio.
