VIEW IMAGES

RECENT ABSTRACTS exhibits two dramatically different ways of producing an abstract photographic image. The first collection relates to traditional photography as they are through-the-lens abstractions, basically straight images that were printed exactly as they were composed in the camera’s viewfinder then recorded on the camera’s image sensor.

After years of photographing reflections of water on glassine surfaces (See WATER IMAGES exhibition portfolio), I discovered there is a trove of visual possibilities and potential images that actually benefit from moving water. Seven venues ranging from Chesapeake Bay, to Portofino Harbor, to Sanary-Sur-Mer, to Chelsea , NYC, to the Mekong River, Laos, to Costa Rica and Belize offered water “canvases” that appear first in RECENT ABSTRACTS

Unlike the abstracts that appear first, the latter images are an exploration into abstractions created after the image has been recorded on the sensor in the camera. The Inverness Suite was inspired by and pays homage to James Turrell’s magnificent Skyspace installations, and I acknowledge his genius in creating them. I love his vision. It inspired me to make my own investigation into the geometrics of light and color.
