NEW IMAGE ADDED TO 'OF CLOUDS AND WATER'

Beyond a lagoon on Chesapeake Bay, at its widest point -32 miles  - is the perfect backdrop for capturing dramatic, changing patterns of light, atmosphere, weather, clouds and water.  WATER SUITE NO. 5, very different from other images in this suite, presents a far more gentle scene, with its soft, pastel colors.

Water and clouds are endlessly fascinating to me: they share an ability to transform light and color through reflection, absorption, diffusion, transmission.  As such, they wield enormous power to affect our perceptions and emotions.

Clouds are never still.  They transform themselves before our eyes.  Each cloud scene presents a narrative that will change and never again exist  in the same form, shape, color, light, temperature, atmosphere, texture, movement, which is why, when we come upon such a scene as this one of rosy clouds lit by the setting sun, illuminating the calm, turquoise water, we may wish that this moment will never end.

Water- the primary source of life, and on which clouds depend for their existence, is always poised at the edge of change. Will it become  peaceful, turbulent, destructive, nourishing, reflective, salutary?

For the 13 images in the OF CLOUDS AND WATER portfolio, the viewer must complete the narrative. What happens next? What would these images look like five minutes from now? or in three days? or next year? Will rising sea level due to climate change alter such scenes entirely?
