NEW INTERNATIONAL COLOR PHOTOGRAPHY AWARD! NO.6 OF 6 'GOOD TIMES FOR SALE'

  WINNER: HONORABLE MENTION (AMERICANA)

GOOD TIMES ARE GONE! Everything in this somewhat nostalgic, but dispirited scene of the abandoned Good Times Restaurant & Bar on the side of a rural VA highway points to a no longer remembered place where the good times the patrons once had, are gone, as well.

Over time, shrubs have joined the weeds to become the building’s only companions in the forlorn landscape.

Even the once-lighted pole sign, having lost words and letters, feels ironic with its message urging “GO TIMES.”

My deepest thanks to the 15th Annual International Color Awards jury for a much valued recognition of this nostalgic rural landscape.

Interested in other images of Americana and American life? Many appear in PICTURE OF THE WEEK and in the Of THE EARTH portfolio, which includes 12 pastoral landscapes from the rural South.
