MOST POPULAR PICTURE OF THE WEEK 2022
The official state bird of seven states, this majestic Northern Cardinal shows off his eye-catching red plumage, and voice, perched on snowy branch after a 5” snowfall here in VA. He’s a come-to-life doppelgänger for Big Red Terence of the video game ANGRY BIRDS fame. I was lucky enough to grab my 35 mm DSLR in time to capture the moment he sounded off. He opened his beak so wide that you can almost see the syrinx, his voice box.
For his efforts and mine, I chose him for PICTURE OF THE WEEK for New Year’s week. Turns out, he was without a doubt the most popular, the most forwarded PICTURE OF THE WEEK for 2022.
If you are a frequent visitor to my website, you are likely aware that PICTURE OF THE WEEK celebrates an often unexpected, intriguing view that each of us might enjoy encountering in our daily life. I originally intended such photographs that do not fit under the rubric of any of my fine art exhibition portfolios to entice visitors to return to the site regularly. By and large, they became so successful that PICTURE OF THE WEEK took on a life of its own with viewers returning again and again.
